IMG_2546Mario Sergio Yokoyama, Head Instructor

Regarded internationally as leading competitor in both Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Mixed Martial Arts, Mario Yokoyama is known for his training methods, technical knowledge and attention to detail. A Judo black belt, and BJJ black belt under the late Ryan Gracie, Mario is responsible for the development of myBrazilian Jiu Jitsu curriculum and instructor training programs. Some of Mario’s titles include: CFC light-weight champion (MMA), King of the Ring light-weight champion (MMA), IBJJF New York Open champion, IBJJF Melbourne Open champion, IBJJF Asian Open champion, IBJJF World NO-GI silver medallist. gordinho profile picRafael ‘Gordinho’ Correa de Lima, Mentor Instructor

Co-leader of Asia’s premier MMA gym, Evolve MMA, Gordinho is a multiple time World Champion Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt under Carlos Gracie Jr. and is responsible for the Renzo Gracie Curriculum at Evolve MMA in Singapore and Brazil. Lending his expertise to myBJJ Team, Gordinho visits Sydney annually to mentor our students and instructors.

From Ribeirão Preto, Brazil, Ricardo now teaches in our Camperdown, CBD and Rozelle schools. Ricardo has trained and competed internationally, earning titles such as Sao Paulo State Champion, 2 x IBJJF Melbourne International Open Champion, 3 x IBJJF Sydney International Open Champion, 2 x NSW State Champion & Australian Grand Prix Super Fight Winner. Ricardo is a qualified community coach and holds a Cert. IV in Sports Coaching. He is known for his technical knowledge and can often be found leading additional training sessions for students.

With a black belt in Escrima & BJJ, Salvador brings a wealth of Martial Arts experience to the team with years of teaching under his belt. Salvador’s friendly personality has made him a popular instructor amongst students at our Camperdown & North Sydney location where he regularly teaches classes for both adults and children.

Peter’s Jiu Jitsu career began in London under Roger Gracie (from whom he received his Blue Belt). Since then, Peter currently holds a Black belt in BJJ & continues to train and teach at myBJJ Team. He is mainly found at the Sevens Hills franchise where he teaches adult & kids programs. As a primary school teacher by trade, Peter lends his expertise in the Junior BJJ programs. You can also find Peter teaching on Mondays at our North Sydney location.

Originally from Brazil & raised in Franca-SP, Sergio is a black-belt in Capoeria & BJJ. He is also a professional MMA, Muay Thai, Boxing, Taekwondo, & Luta Livre fighter. His current fight record: 8-6 (Win-Loss). Wins: 4 by submission, 3 by TKO, 1 decision. Losses: 2 by submission, 3 by TKO, 1 decision. Having competed in many different competitions of different martial arts, Sergio has taken home the Gold in almost every type. As a graduate of Physical Education, Sergio is currently developing his knowledge further into Sports & Fitness in Australia. He is very committed to the sport & thoroughly enjoys what he does. You can find Sergio teaching at HQ and our North Shore location (Fundamentals, Mixed, Advanced, MMA & Kickboxing).

From Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Werique has travelled and trained under some of the best Jiu-Jitsu practitioners in the world, including Leandro Lo whom he received his purple belt from. Werique now calls Sydney home, and regularly competes both nationally and internationally. Werique has medalled at the major IBJJF Championships across Brazil. His titles include: Sao Paulo Gi & No-Gi State Champion, Australian Winter Cup Champion and Grappling Industries Champion. Werique can be found leading classes at our Sydney headquarters & North Sydney location.


John WoodJohn Wood, Instructor

With a black belt in Judo and brown belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, John Wood is a force to be reckoned with at the gym and on the competition scene. John’s effective takedowns and attention to detail when instructing has made his classes popular amongst students at our Camperdown location, especially to prospective competitors. You can find John teaching the Wednesday morning classes at our Headquarters.


LiliLiliane Pereira, Instructor

From São Paulo, Brazil, Liliane now runs classes at our Camperdown and Cremorne locations. With a purple belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and a Certificate III in Fitness, Liliane incorporates her love of martial arts and fitness into all her classes. Teaching women’s self-defense to refugees at Auburn Youth Centre, at the Lebanese Muslim Association, and various in-house seminars, Liliane’s is known around the Inner-West community for her giving and kind-hearted nature. She is beloved in our kid’s classes for her patient teaching style, and her attention to individualism.


AmyAmy Campbell, Instructor

From Sydney, Australia, Amy provides a knowledgeable addition to the MyBJJ team. With a Cert III & IV in Fitness & Personal Training and a Purple Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under Professor Mario Yokoyama, you can find Amy instructing the female self-defence classes at Camperdown and hosting various Health & Fitness events. She has also proven herself to be a versatile athlete by competing on the national & international stage. Amy is very passionate about health, fitness and BJJ which is strongly reflected in her approach to coaching and mentoring.


Diogo Morgado, Instructor

Diogo is one of our most patient Instructors. His BJJ journey started in his hometown of São Paulo, Brazil. He is an active competitor and has taken home many medals and awards. Since living in Australia Diogo has been developing his knowledge on Sports Coaching and aspires to be one of the greatest coaches in the BJJ world. Known for his gentle teaching style, you can find Diogo conducting Kids and Adult classes in both Camperdown and our North shore locations.


Dale Gleeson, Instructor

Born in Australia from Ulladulla on the South Coast of NSW, Dale started his Jiu-Jitsu journey with myBJJ in 2011. Originally training Muay Thai, his love for BJJ soon took over. A highlight of his BJJ career would be taking home three gold medals at Sydney Open! Dale also enjoys, Yoga, Pilates & Surfing. You can find Dale teaching the No-Gi BJJ classes every Tuesday & Thursday at HQ. You can also find him assisting a variety of other classes around HQ.


Toshi Miyazawa, Instructor

Born & raised in Japan & with a background of Judo & Sambo, you will find Toshi assisting the Fundamentals classes at HQ. Since starting BJJ under Prof. Mario in 2008, Toshi brings all meaning to “The Gentle Art” with his knowledge on sweeps & technique. In 2014 Toshi became the NSW light-weight state champion in both Gi & No-Gi. Toshi is also a University graduate of Sports Science.


morganMorgan Kennedy, Instructor

Morgan began training BJJ back in the UK almost a decade ago and has been with myBJJ since 2014 when he came to us as a blue belt. He is an active competitor, meddling in many of the local tournaments and has managed to take away the Pan Pacific No-Gi Heavyweight title and Sydney International Open No-Gi Heavyweight and Open-weight titles. He now holds a Brown Belt under Mario and helps teach the Teens competitions classes.


kangjinKangjin Choi, Instructor

Kangjin started training BJJ in Seoul, Korea under the ‘Ratel Yellow BJJ Team’ in early 2010. He joined myBJJ as a purple belt in 2015. He is currently a Brown belt & runs one of our myBJJ franchises in Lidcombe. He has acquired many gold medals from a tonne of competitions! The most recent being the 2018 Oceania Championship. Kangjin is qualified as a Kinesi therapy specialist (physiology therapy) & Ashitanga Yoga.


gregGreg Cleary, Instructor

Greg has been involved in the Martial Arts for over 35 years. In addition to his myBJJ Black belt, he holds a Black belt in Karate and P10 Level in Krav Maga. You can find Greg teaching the Master MMA classes at HQ.


benBen Gottlieb, Instructor

Born & raised in Sydney, Australia. Ben has actively trained Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under Professor Mario Yokohama since 2012. He has competed nationally & taken home many Gold medals across a variety of different events. Ben is a patient & kind teacher & is always willing to lend a helping hand. You will find him teaching the Mixed BJJ classes every Tuesday & Thursday morning at HQ!

Chris first started BJJ in 2011 with Mario & currently holds a brown belt. He is currently a full-time university student and an active BJJ competitor whom has trained world-wide. While being known for this half-guard and technical abilities, he also brings a vast amount of BJJ experience & knowledge form all around the world. Chris has a friendly attitude which is reflected in the way he teaches.

Born in Brazil, Professor Julian started his BJJ training in 2005 at ‘Arena Jiu Jitsu’ in Curitiba. Alongside his BJJ training, Julian has been involved with Judo since 12 years of age! Currently, he is a Black belt in both BJJ & Judo. His competition highlights include winning double gold in Gi & No-Gi (Open-Weight division) at Sydney Open, double gold in No-Gi & double silver in Gi at IBJJF’s Pan Pacific competition. Julian is also a qualified BJJ referee. You can find Julian teaching the Master BJJ classes on Monday night at HQ and running the BJJ classes in Caringbah.

Jae grew up in Seoul, South Korea where he began his BJJ training in 2009. He joined myBJJ team in 2012 as a blue belt. Since then, Jae has obtained his Brown belt along with a nic-name (Mr Armbar). Jae is also a Black belt in Judo. Some of his BJJ titles include: Gold at Pan Pacific, NSW state championship, Sydney Open & Melbourne Open. You will find Jae helping out the Junior BJJ class on Saturdays and actively training almost every other day of the week.
