IMG_2546Mario Sergio Yokoyama, Head Instructor


Regarded internationally as leading competitor in both Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Mixed Martial Arts, Mario Yokoyama is known for his training methods, technical knowledge and attention to detail. Trained since childhood in Judo and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Mario moved to Sydney in 2004 where he now lives with his Australian wife and daughters. A Judo black belt, and BJJ black belt under the late Ryan Gracie, Mario is responsible for the development of myBrazilian Jiu Jitsu curriculum and instructor training programs. Some of Mario’s titles include: CFC light-weight champion (MMA), King of the Ring light-weight champion (MMA), IBJJF New York Open champion, IBJJF Melbourne Open champion, IBJJF Asian Open champion, IBJJF World NO-GI silver medalist.


gordinho profile picRafael ‘Gordinho’ Correa de Lima, Mentor Instructor


Co-leader of Asia’s premier MMA gym, Evolve MMA, Gordinho is a multiple time World Champion Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt under Carlos Gracie Jr. and is responsible for the Renzo Gracie Curriculum at Evolve MMA in Singapore and Brazil. Lending his expertise to myBJJ Team, Gordinho visits Sydney annually to mentor our students and instructors.

David King, Instructor

One of Mario Yokoyama’s first Australian students, David is a seasoned BJJ and MMA competitor and can be found leading our early morning classes at Camperdown HQ. Known for his all-round fitness, David motivates his students to be technically sound and physically fit, and can often be found leading conditioning sessions for students.

From Ribeirão Preto, Brazil, Ricardo now teaches in our Camperdown, CBD and Rozelle schools. Ricardo has trained and competed internationally, earning titles such as Sao Paulo State Champion, 2 x IBJJF Melbourne International Open Champion, 3 x IBJJF Sydney International Open Champion, 2 x NSW State Champion & Australian Grand Prix Super Fight Winner. Ricardo is a qualified community coach and holds a Cert. IV in Sports Coaching. He is known for his technical knowledge, and can often be found leading additional training sessions for students. Ricardo is also available for personalised, one on one lessons with students.

From Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Werique has travelled and trained under some of the best Jiu-Jitsu practitioners in the world, receiving his purple belt from Leandro Lo. Werique now calls Sydney home, and regularly competes both nationally and internationally. Werique has medalled at the major IBJJF Championships across Brazil. His titles include: Sao Paulo Gi & No-Gi State Champion, Australian Winter Cup Champion and Grappling Industries Champion. Werique brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to myBJJ Team, and can be found leading classes at our Sydney headquarters in our Future Champions programs and adult’s classes. Werique is also available for personalised, one on one lessons with students.

Kevin is an experienced martial artist, having trained and competed internationally. Kevin specializes in NO-GI and submission wrestling. He is an highly technical instructor, and is always happy to lend his expertise to students.

With a black belt in Escrima and years of teaching under his belt, Salvador brings a wealth of Martial Arts experience to the team. Salvador’s friendly personality has made him a popular instructor amongst students at our Camperdown location where he regularly teaches classes for both adults and children. Salvador is also available for personalised, one on one lessons with students.

Rafael has been training BJJ since 2009 and is one of our most active competitors at the Academy. Rafael has competed and placed at many events including the NSW State Championships, Pan Pacific Championships and the Worlds Jiu Jitsu Championships. Rafael has taken opportunities to expand his knowledge of BJJ by training with greats such as Rillion Gracie, Ronis Gracie, Fabio Leopoldo, Nino Schembri, Kyra Gracie, Ryron Gracie, Rener Gracie and Ralek Gracie. He is always happy to teach and is very approachable on and off the mats.

Moodi is a nutritionist and elite fitness consultant fast becoming one of the most trusted and sought after health and fitness professionals. He has trained athletes such as Anthony Mundine, Billy Dib, Lauren Eagle, and John Steffenson whilst also featuring as the “Diet Doctor” in Men’s Health November 2012 issue. Moodi has been training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu under Mario Yokoyama for a number of years and has the unique ability to pair and tailor his nutrition and fitness expertise with Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

Having trained and competed Internationally, Peter brings a wealth of knowledge to the Team. Peter’s Jiu Jitsu career began in London under Roger Gracie (from whom he received his Blue Belt) and continues at myBJJ Team where he teaches classes for both adults and children at our Camperdown and Seven Hills locations. As a primary school teacher by trade, Peter lends his expertise in our Little Samurai programs.

Orlando’s training has taken him from his home in Brazil across the globe where he has gained a wealth of experience in Singapore, USA and Thailiand. Orlando is a seasoned fighter and Muay Thai and Kick Boxing Instructor, and a qualified Strength and Conditioning coach. Orlando is a seasoned Children’s coach and is also responsible for our FightFit program, and readily shares his knowledge with students who want to further their strength, conditioning and competition preparation.

Fergus began his training in 2011, and is an active competitor and coach at myBJJ. Fergus can be found regularly teaching and assisting in our children’s and adult’s programs. Fergus is also responsible for the organization and running of our in-house competitions, lending his expertise and experience to students and competitors.

When she’s not jumping out of planes, Dawn Tratt is on the mat. The South African-Kiwi started BJJ in Wellington in 2011. But it was only once she began training with Mario Yokoyama in Sydney that she truly fell in love with the sport. Dawn is passionate about competition and brings great energy and enthusiasm to the gym. Mid-week she teaches the mini-champs, and on weekends is a skydiving instructor.
